Going Live with Register.com

Adding Your Domain to Your Dashboard

Before taking your site live, you will want to make sure that you add your domain name within the Greenhouse. You can follow these steps to do so:

Step 1 - Go to your Dashboard
Step 2 - Click the More Button (located under Edit Site)
Step 3 -  Click Domain Management
Step 4 - Click Add A Domain and then enter your domain www.yourdomain.com. *Note: Be sure when you enter your domain name to use lowercase letters. Using uppercase letters may cause issues with your site going live.
Step 5 - Click Add Domain to save your domain name to your account.
Step 6 - Click Add A Domain again, and enter your domain name without the www. So in this case you would add yourdomain.com. (This will help allow your site to pull up whether or not your users type www.yourdomain.com or yourdomain.com)
Step 7 - Click Add Domain to save your changes.

Once this has been completed, you can continue with pointing your domain by following the steps below.

Updating Your IP Address With Register.com

If you registered your domain name through Register.com, here are the steps you will take to make your website live:

Step 1 - Go to Register.com and click on the link in the top right  corner called Manage Account

Step 2 - Enter your username and password

Step 3 - Hover your mouse over Domains and then select Manage. If you have more than one domain name, you will then want to click on the domain name that you want to work with

Step 4 - Scroll down to the bottom of the page and under Advanced Technical Settings you will find a column with an A in it. Go to the right and click Edit IP Address Records.

If Advanced Technical Settings shows, "You are unable to modify these settings because you are no longer on Register.com's DNS. Please click Restore Default DNS Server settings if you would like to switch back to Register.com's DNS." HOWEVER, this will change all the other settings for your domain, which means that your email (MX) records will go down. You may want to stop and read our help article about name servers here.

Step 5 - On this page, add one @ symbol in the areas provided to the left. Have @ point to this IP Address -  52.27.100.214

Step 6 - Once you've entered the IP Address in the field, click Continue once and then click Continue again on the next page

Step 7 - Under Advanced Technical Settings you will find a column with CNAME in it.  Go to the right and click Edit Domain Aliases Records.

Step 8 - In the left box put www, and in the right box put the @ symbol. Click Continue, and then click Continue again on the next page.

Keep in mind:

  • Although in most cases you should be able launch your website within an hour of changing the DNS settings, this process can take up to 24 hours. Test to see if you can launch your website after you follow these steps but remember it may not work right away. For more information on this process, check out our Trouble Launching Your Site article.
